The material in the book presumes that the reader's background is equally solid in undergraduate mathematics and mechanics. Using the 5th edition instead of the 6th has worked out just fine for my course because it contains the same information but just has different page numbers. I give Laura Joh Rowland's books a big "thumb up" for all her lovely and most enjoyable stories and please, Laura, keep Sano San alive always. It's a story of sharing and friendship, with a neat twist at the end. And she's also used to taking charge. but that's another story for later. Reading it now, as an over-60, garden-loving mom with lots of life experience, I think I appreciate it a lot more, although I would have loved the mystery as a kid. There is pragmatic, practical love, and there is gentle, caring unconditional love. you can read only so much of the same things again and again, no matter how spicy. we love cat/animal stories so this was an easy fit. Katriona Hughes has no idea how she’s managed to find herself in 16th century Scotland, but she’s beginning to think the emerald gem she picked up on an archeological site may have had something to do with it. The book is very lengthy for a potty reading book so I usually skip some if the reading to make it through the whole book.
